The site of the ancient Zhouyang Commandery City is located in Zhoucheng Town, Linquan County. 【Zhouyang】 (pronounced zhòu—) was the name of an ancient county, established during the Han Dynasty. It was named for being situated on the sunny (northern) side of the Zhou River. Its seat was in what is now Zhoucheng, northwest of Linquan County, Anhui Province. The commandery was abolished during the Eastern Jin and Northern Qi dynasties but was soon reestablished, and was finally disbanded in the early years of Emperor Taizong’s Zhenguan era in the Tang Dynasty. At the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty, the Yellow Turban Rebellion forces once engaged in a major battle with the troops of Bao Hong in Gepo, southwest of the county. …
