Beizhao Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Beizhao Temple is located in Yuanzhai Town, Yingdong District, and has a long and storied history. It dates back to the Jin Dynasty, with its site once serving as the relocated government center of Xuchang during the Liang Dynasty. During the Daye era of Emperor Yang of Sui, Qingqiu City was established here. In the late Yuan Dynasty, the impoverished Zhu Yuanzhang sought refuge at Beizhao Temple. The abbot, seeing his intelligence and liveliness, let him stay and provided him with meals. Out of gratitude, Zhu Yuanzhang became a monk. Due to his sharp wit, he earned high praise from the abbot. Later, when the Red Turban Army led by Liu Futong passed through the area, Zhu Yuanzhang joined their ranks and eventually became the founding emperor of the Ming Dynasty. In the 25th year of the Hongwu era of the Ming Dynasty, the now-emperor Zhu Yuanzhang, out of gratitude to Beizhao Temple, allocated funds to renovate the temple. Over the centuries, Beizhao Temple has endured many trials and tribulations, and its once grand and solemn halls and pavilions no longer exist. However, its legendary historical transformations and its deep connections with Zhu Yuanzhang continue to captivate people’s interest. Many visitors come here, drawn by its former glory. In 2005, Beizhao Temple was designated as a county-level cultural relics protection unit, and in the same year, it was approved by the provincial religious affairs bureau as a legitimate site for Buddhist activities. In 2006, the provincial ** affairs bureau officially approved the restoration and reconstruction of Beizhao Temple. Yingdong District invested substantial funds into the temple’s rebuilding project. The restored and reconstructed Beizhao Temple covers an area of over 120 acres, and construction commenced on October 25, 2009. The entire project is divided into three phases. Currently, the first phase — the “Beizhao Temple Pure Land Courtyard” — has been largely completed. Preparations have also begun for the second phase — the “Beizhao Temple Zen Courtyard” — and the third phase — the “Mahavira Hall.” The goal is to complete the project within 3 to 5 years, making Beizhao Temple the largest temple in northern Anhui.

Yuanzhai Town: Located 13 kilometers east of Fuyang City proper, Yuanzhai Town in Yingdong District covers an area of 56 square kilometers. It governs 26 village (residential) committees, 160 natural villages, 381 villager groups, 13,776 households, and a total population of 62,000, including 59,000 agricultural residents. The town has over 40,000 mu of arable land.

The town enjoys a superior geographical location, bordered by the Ying River to the south, and traversed by the Fuyang–Huoqiu Highway, the Fuyang–Huainan Railway, and the Jih River, providing convenient transportation. The soil types include sandy soil, clayey soil, and black soil, all of which are fertile.
