The Fishing Spot of Xu Shu from the Three Kingdoms Period

The Fishing Spot of Xu Shu from the Three Kingdoms Period is located in Diaotai Village, Kouzi Town. According to the local gazetteer: Xu Shu, courtesy name Yuanzhi, killed someone in his youth to avenge a wrong and later changed his name to Shanfu while adopting his mother’s surname. He served Liu Bei of the Han dynasty, but was later deceived by Cao Cao. After his mother died and was buried, he refused to serve Wei and instead went fishing at Shanjia Pool in Ying (now Kouzi Town, Yingdong District, Fuyang), one and a half kilometers west of which lies a fishing platform. It is said to be the very spot where Xu Shu fished.

Xu Shu, courtesy name Yuanzhi, was a native of Yangdi in Yingchuan (present-day Yuzhou City, Henan Province) during the late Eastern Han Dynasty. He was a renowned scholar of the Yingchuan region in those times. After joining Cao Cao, he rose to the rank of Right Central Commandant and Imperial Censor-in-Chief in the Wei court. Thanks to the vivid portrayal of Xu Shu in China’s classic novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, he is a household name across China, known to both adults and children.
