Dongshan Park

Located to the south of Huainan city proper. Accessible via National Highway 206 and the Hefei-Huainan-Fuyang Expressway. It is a scenic area integrating fitness, sightseeing, tourism, and leisure. The park covers an area of 21.72 square kilometers. It stretches from Xiaodong Mountain in Jiulonggang Town, Datong District, in the east, to Xiaomiaoshan in Wangfenggang Town, Xiejiaji District, in the west, from Bianzhan Road in the south, to the mountain foothills in the north, with the highest peak at an elevation of 215.5 meters and the lowest point at only 56 meters. It includes landmarks such as TV Station Hill, the Martyrs’ Monument, Laolongyan Reservoir, and Quanshan Reservoir, with a developed scenic area spanning 1.56 square kilometers. Shungeng Mountain, also known as Shenguo Mountain or Shenge Mountain, is said to be where Emperor Shun once personally farmed, hence its name. The mountain features undulating peaks, abundant springs, lush forests, and beautiful scenery, rich in both natural and cultural resources. Its complex terrain includes diverse landscapes of rocks, springs, caves, and lakes, while valleys and depressions are adorned with graceful trees and verdant shadows. Laofo Cave, with its unfathomable depth, is said to connect to Maoxian Cave in Fengtai, 30 kilometers away. Ancient people called it the “Number One Cave of Huainan,” from which Dongshan (Cave Mountain) gets its name. Shungeng Mountain is abundant in springs—some forming ponds, some flowing as streams, and others gushing as springs. Highlights include the old spring on the southern slope of Zhushan and the small waterfall at Mahudong Cave. The old spring is the most prolific on Shungeng Mountain; an early dam built to block the valley eventually formed the present-day Quanshan Lake, whose waters are clear and never dry throughout the year.
