Liaojiawan Revolutionary Memorial Hall
The Liaojiawan Revolutionary Memorial Hall is a patriotic education base.
The Liaojiawan Revolutionary Memorial Hall, a patriotic education base in Huainan City, is located in Liaojiawan Village, Ancheng Town, Tianjia'an District, Huainan, covering an area of 4.6 mu. The memorial hall enjoys a prime location, bordered by Huaipan Road to the east and the Hefei-Huainan-Fuyang Railway to the west, offering very convenient transportation.
The Liaojiawan Revolutionary Memorial Hall is directly under the leadership of the Propaganda Department of Tianjia'an District, Huainan City. The memorial hall has a management committee with an office under it.
The Liaojiawan Memorial Hall was first established in 2000 and is divided into five exhibition halls:
Exhibition Hall 1: The Origin of Liaojiawan Village
This exhibition hall mainly introduces how the Liao family assisted Zhu Yuanzhang in the war against the Yuan Dynasty from the late Yuan Dynasty, eventually establishing the Ming Dynasty, and how the ninth-generation ancestor moved to Liaojiawan in 1521; how revolutionary predecessors such as Liao Ziying and Liao Haishu joined the Tongmenghui and participated in the Xinhai Revolution; the establishment of the Jianghuai Party Branch in early 1928 and their participation in the Northern Expedition; and the stories of 37 graduates of the Whampoa Military Academy from Liaojiawan and their subsequent involvement in the August 1st Nanchang Uprising, the Battle of Wuhan, the Defense of Taiyuan, the Battle of Taierzhuang, the War of Resistance Against Japan, and the Liberation War.
Exhibition Hall 2: Democratic Revolutionary Pioneer Liao Ziying
This exhibition hall mainly introduces Liao Ziying, a member of the Chinese Tongmenghui and one of the “Nine Liao Brothers of the Xinhai Revolution in Huai Shang,” who followed Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s teachings throughout his life, upheld national righteousness, and ceaselessly struggled for national rejuvenation and liberation. Especially during the War of Resistance Against Japan, he formed a bond with the New Fourth Army general Peng Xuefeng, united to resist Japan, and led former provincial government officials, the Ninth and Tenth Administrative Inspectorates of Anhui, and local armed forces in an uprising, achieving the peaceful liberation of Anhui and Hefei. Liao Ziying served in the military and government for over 40 years without seeking personal gain, remaining upright and incorruptible, which earned him great respect.
Exhibition Hall 3: Legendary General Liao Yunzhou
This exhibition hall mainly introduces General Liao Yunzhou, a Communist Party member who worked undercover in enemy camps for 27 years. He devoted himself to the revolution, joined the Whampoa Military Academy in the fifth term, and subsequently participated in the August 1st Nanchang Uprising, the Battle of Taierzhuang, and the Battle of Xia’ao, playing a significant role in the War of Resistance Against Japan. During the Liberation War, Liao Yunzhou led his troops to stage an uprising on the battlefield of the Huaihai Campaign, which greatly shook the morale of the Kuomintang army. After the uprising, he immediately joined the battle to encircle and attack the Huang Wei Corps. Chairman Mao Zedong and Commander-in-Chief Zhu De sent congratulatory telegrams.
Exhibition Hall 4: The Rise and Fall of the Huai Shang Army
This exhibition hall mainly introduces the struggles of the Huai Shang National Army (abbreviated as Huai Shang Army), formed primarily by peasants under the leadership of the Chinese Tongmenghui led by Dr. Sun Yat-sen during the democratic revolution period, in northern Anhui.
Exhibition Hall 5: The Liao Family in the Flames of the Anti-Japanese War
This exhibition hall mainly introduces how anti-Japanese generals from Liaojiawan, such as Liao Yunzhou, Liao Yunze, Liao Yunsheng, Liao Ziying, Liao Chuanshu, and Liao Minzhong, bravely fought on the front lines of the Anti-Japanese War, and how Liao Yunze was involved in the surrender operations in Jinan, Shandong; Liao Yunzhou in Zhengzhou, Henan; Liao Yunsheng in Xuzhou, Jiangsu; and Liao Chuanshu in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Since its opening, leaders at the municipal, district, and town levels have visited the hall multiple times to inspect and guide its work, providing strong support. Cadres, masses, social organizations, and primary and secondary school students from across the city have visited in large numbers and carried out thematic educational activities. In 2015, the number of visitors reached more than 1,500. The Liaojiawan Revolutionary Memorial Hall not only showcases the historical scenes of the people of Liaojiawan dedicating themselves to the revolution but also promotes the revolutionary spirit of the people of Huainan, who ceaselessly strive for national rejuvenation and liberation.
Xie Chun (?–1129), courtesy name Jingxiang, was a native of Liuyang in the Song Dynasty. Renowned for his talent and bravery, he was widely respected. In the third year of the Jianyan era of the Southern Song Dynasty (1129), a mutiny broke out in Tanzhou (present-day Changsha), marked by arson and looting. The regional commander Xiang Ziyin ordered Meng Yanqing, the prefectural administrator, to pacify the rebels. Soon after, the mutinous troops led by Du Yan invaded Liuyang, where Meng was defeated and killed. Xiang then ordered Zhao Minyan, another prefectural administrator, to lead troops against the rebels, but they were unsuccessful. At that time, Xie Chun led the militia as the vanguard to assist Zhao in battle, personally slaying dozens of enemies. Overwhelmed, he was captured and killed by the rebels.
