The Swallow Valley Grand Canyon is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction and a national water conservancy scenic area.

The Swallow Valley Grand Canyon scenic area in Jinzhai County is located within Jinzhai County, Anhui Province, adjacent to the Tianzhuangzhai National Forest Park, and is a national 3A-level tourist attraction. The Shanghai–Wuhan–Chengdu High-Speed Railway and highway (both under construction) run through the county, and it can be accessed via National Highway 312 and the Nanjing–Xi'an Railway, about 120 kilometers from Hefei. In the 1990s, Fengping Reservoir was built on the upper section of the Swallow River. After the river water was dammed, the rocky riverbed was exposed. The local rock composition is complex, and centuries of mountain torrents have eroded and carved it into uniquely shaped, colorful geological wonders. In 2004, additional attractions were discovered and gradually developed into a scenic area open to the public.

The canyon is approximately 5,000 meters long and is roughly divided into three sections. The upper section features black rocks scattered across the riverbed, resembling a mysterious stone circle. The middle section has a smooth, round riverbed with peculiar water-eroded formations such as Dragon Pool, Bathing Pool, and Sea Snail. Towering green ridges and blooming wildflowers line both sides of the river. The lower section’s riverbed is covered with pebbles on pure sandy ground, showcasing a variety of shapes that are fascinating to observe. A hiking trail has been developed along one side of the valley, where visitors can admire rare trees and exotic flowers. Among them is an ancient willow tree known as the “Thousand-Year Miracle Willow of China,” whose gnarled trunk resembles a blooming flower, truly breathtaking. At the end of the valley lies a “tiankeng” (natural sinkhole), 50 meters deep with a diameter of about 30 meters at the opening. The pit walls are as sheer as if cut by a knife. A waterfall cascades vertically down the front edge of the pit, like a jade curtain in the wind. There is also a natural cave on the pit wall, with an entrance as wide as a room and a depth that is unfathomable. A tourist boat is available on the reservoir upstream. Taking a boat upstream allows visitors to enjoy natural landscapes such as virgin forests and waterfall clusters.

The Swallow Valley Grand Canyon features continuous dramatic gorges, renowned for its perilous cliffs, peculiar rocks, serene valleys, and pristine waters. Within a compact walking space of about 2,000 meters, there is a concentration of naturally sculpted, awe-inspiring tiankeng landscapes that are nearly impossible to climb; the unfathomable, heaven-made “Immortal Cave”; the ever-changing, ethereal beauty of the Spirit Waterfall, which resembles snow, mist, and smoke; a myriad of uniquely shaped, colorful natural rocks, striations, and cavities that leave visitors marveling at nature’s wondrous craftsmanship; a variety of spectacular gorges, beaches, pools, lakes, and islands that create breathtaking scenes, making one feel as though stepping into a fairyland; cascading waterfalls and ancient trees that evoke the feeling of being in a paradise like Peach Blossom Spring; and lush mountains, clear waters, blue skies, and white clouds that showcase their unique charm throughout the seasons, making it an enchanting green tourism destination.

Dashankou Village: Dashankou Village is located in the southwestern part of Yanzihe Town, Jinzhai County, covering a total area of 28.68 square kilometers, with an average elevation of 480 meters. The village administers 11 villager groups, with 568 households and a total population of 2,072 people, including 44 Party members. In 2012, the per capita income of farmers was 7,713 yuan. The village enjoys convenient transportation and serves as a must-pass location on the way to the last virgin forest in East China—the 5A-level scenic area Tianzhuangzhai—as well as being home to the 4A-level Swallow Valley Grand Canyon scenic area.
