Hailuo Temple

Hailuo Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Hailuo Temple is located in a canyon not far from the Tianzhuangzhai National Forest Park in Jinzhai County. Situated at the junction of Henghe, Zhufan, and Laowan villages in Shahe Township, Jinzhai County, Hailuo Temple was first built in the mid-Ming Dynasty. It later became a branch of the Shuanghe Taoist Temple within the county. Approved by the Jinzhai County Religious Affairs Bureau, it was opened to the public along with Xiangshan Temple. The site served as an important meeting place for local progressive organizations and members during the early revolutionary period and the Anti-Japanese War. Its legendary tales and natural scenery continue to attract numerous visitors. The "King of Ginkgo Trees in Anhui" is located in Loufang Village, honored as one of the “Top 1,000 National Forestry Ecological Construction Villages,” right next to the former residence of Zhou Weijiong. After multi-faceted research and verification by an expert team led by Zhou Shusheng from the Anhui Provincial Forestry Department, it was named the “King of Ginkgo Trees in Anhui.” Additionally, the Shahe Township area boasts many other cultural and natural attractions such as Huaniangzhai, Huangshizhai, the ancient Niushanhe Bridge, Dishuiyan Waterfall, Longtanhe Canyon, and Qingyu Temple.

Due to historical reasons and the upheavals of the Cultural Revolution, Hailuo Temple fell into disrepair. In recent years, local devotees spontaneously raised funds to rebuild the two-courtyard, six-room temple complex and restored over twenty Buddha statues including those of Sakyamuni and Guanyin, thus reviving its spiritual activity.
