Shizhai

Located in Shizhai Village, Nanxi Town, Jinzhai County. This stronghold is not connected to the nearby mountains but rises abruptly from the landscape, standing between Zengfan, Mahe, and Beitan. The mountain is steep and rugged, with towering cliffs on all sides. There is no access from the south, north, or west — only an arduous path on the east side leads to the summit. The top is relatively flat. Legend has it that before the Yuan Dynasty, there were already three temples here. Shizhai is also a scenic destination, surrounded by peculiar rocks, steep cliffs, and lush forests. From the mountaintop, one can gaze over rolling hills covered in endless green. The Qing Dynasty poet Zhang Xiaoxi once inscribed the words “A myriad peaks share the same verdure” on the stronghold. Zhang Zhuqu, a renowned local physician from Jinzhai, also wrote: “The mountain rises amid swirling clouds, encircled by stone ramparts; the heavens hang stars above cliffs that greet the peaks,” praising the grandeur and magnificence of Shizhai.

Shizhai Village: Shizhai Village is located in the northern part of Nanxi Town, about 8 kilometers from the town government. It is a typical hilly and high-altitude mountainous area. The total area is 12.3 square kilometers, including 1,832 mu of arable land, 15,060 mu of mountainous land, and 2,500 mu of chestnut orchards. The main crops include rice, wheat, corn, and peanuts.

The village has a total of 28 villager groups, 911 households, and 3,460 people, of which 3,410 are agricultural residents. About 50% of the households rely on farming, while 40% are primarily engaged in business or work outside the village.
