Qingtaiguan

Located in Zhijiang Village, Tiantangzhai Town, Jinzhai County. It borders Luotian County of Hubei Province to the south, with an elevation of 1,000 meters. To its east and west lie Moon Fortress (1,360 meters above sea level) and Lion Head (1,177 meters above sea level), standing prominently on perilous ridges. The terrain is rugged yet scenic.

After the 12th year of the Jiading era of the Southern Song Dynasty, amid threats from the Jin and the southward invasion of the Yuan, a pass was established here for defense. In the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, rebel leaders Hou Yinglong and Zhang Fuhuan led their forces in battles against the Qing army at Qingtaiguan and Shiba Pan, among other locations. In the ninth year of the Xianfeng era of the Qing Dynasty (1859), Hu Linyi, the governor of Hubei, ordered the construction of the Shangyi Checkpoint at Duoyun Township’s Qingtaiguan: consisting of one gatehouse, over 290 zhang of stone walls, and one barracks. Most of these historic relics still remain today. During the Guangxu era, Zhang Zhengjin, Li Jinhou, and others opposed foreign religions and organized a joint force of more than two thousand people, waging a persistent anti-imperialist struggle in the Qingtaiguan area and leaving behind many moving stories.

Tiantangzhai Town: Tiantangzhai Town is situated at the junction of Hubei and Anhui provinces, bordering Luotian, Yingshan, and Jinzhai counties. It is closely connected to the picturesque Tiantangzhai National Forest Park. The town covers a total area of 206.6 square kilometers, governs 16 administrative villages, has a population of 17,000, cultivates 19,500 mu of farmland, and has 222,000 mu of mountainous land.

The land here is fertile, the climate is warm and humid with distinct seasons and large diurnal temperature variations.
