The Dagong Mountain – Fenghuang Mountain Copper Mine Site is located in Nanling County and Tongling City in eastern China’s Anhui Province. It is a copper mine and smelting site dating from the Western Zhou Dynasty to the Song Dynasty, spanning the period from the 11th century BC to 1279 AD.

The Dagong Mountain – Fenghuang Mountain Copper Mine Site was discovered in 1984, and the total area of the site is approximately 600 square kilometers. Nearly 100 smelting and mining sites have been found within the site area. Among them, four sites contain important relics such as vertical furnaces for copper smelting from the Western Zhou and Spring and Autumn periods, underground mining sites from the Han and Tang dynasties, ore roasting kilns and circular copper smelting pits from the Tang and Song dynasties. A large number of artifacts have been unearthed, including copper matte ingots, copperware, ironware, and pottery.

The discovery of the Dagong Mountain – Fenghuang Mountain Copper Mine Site is of great academic significance. It not only provides important clues and physical evidence for locating the historically renowned “Danyang Copper” production site in China, but also offers rich material for exploring the origin and development of the Bronze Age civilization in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, studying the historical advancement of ancient Chinese mining and metallurgical technologies, and understanding the socio-economic history of the time.
