Santic History Museum

The Santic History Museum is a patriotic education base.

The Santic History Museum officially opened to the public on October 1, 1959, with its name inscribed personally by Premier Zhou Enlai. Its original location was built within the Nie Ancestral Hall. It was demolished in 1976 due to earthquake damage and a new museum building was completed in 1979. In 1994, the former Fuju Xing Machinery Factory was restored and also became part of the museum's exhibits.

In 2003, the Santic area was rezoned, and the museum site was included in the demolition plan. After redevelopment, on May 9, 2012, the Santic History Museum reopened to the public using the original site of the Fuju Xing Machinery Factory as its exhibition venue.

The museum’s current core exhibitions are the “Exhibition on the Evolution of the Foundry and Machine Manufacturing Industry in the Santic Area” and the “Restored Exhibition of the Former Site of Fuju Xing Machinery Factory.” The “Exhibition on the Evolution of the Foundry and Machine Manufacturing Industry in the Santic Area” is divided into three sections: the conditions and background for the formation of the foundry and machine manufacturing industry in the Santic area (1860–1900), the emergence and development of the machine casting industry in the Santic area (1901–1949), and the recovery and development of industry in the Santic area after the founding of the People’s Republic of China (1949–1956). The exhibition displays, through precious and detailed cultural relics, historical materials, and photographs, the production capacity, methods, and business models of the machine and casting industries in the Santic area, especially the civilian machine manufacturing industry in Tianjin during the modern era, as well as the historical causes and characteristics of industrial development in the Santic area. It authentically reflects the process by which the Santic area became the center of the machine and casting industries in North China. The exhibition also uses multimedia methods to present video interviews with veteran workers, and visitors can access more historical materials through self-service digital displays.

The “Restored Exhibition of the Former Site of Fuju Xing Machinery Factory” is the only remaining site in Tianjin that reflects the rise, development, and transformation of national machine industry history. This exhibit preserves structures such as the front office, kitchen, well, forging shed, foreman’s residence, warehouse, and machining workshop, covering an area of 630 square meters, authentically representing the original appearance of factory life and production in the Santic area during that time.

The Santic History Museum is a Tianjin municipal-level industrial tourism demonstration site and a municipal cultural relics protection unit. In 1994, it was designated as a Tianjin Patriotic Education Base by the Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government.
