Huangshan Zui Site

The Huangshan Zui Site is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Anhui Province.

The Huangshan Zui Site is a Neolithic site located on the northern side of Datashan Mountain in Chengling Township, Susong County, Anhui Province. It covers a total area of approximately 12,000 square meters. Discovered during an archaeological survey conducted by the Anhui Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology in 1981, trial excavations were carried out the same year, followed by two more excavations in 1982 and 1984, with a total exposed area of 370 square meters. Seventeen tombs were discovered, and over 100 artifacts were unearthed, including combinations of ding (tripods), dou (stemmed bowls), hu (jars), cups, bowls, basins, bowls, fu (kettles), yu (basins), zhong (goblets), and lids. The pottery is primarily handmade, consisting of sandy red clay and black-coated red-bodied pottery, often featuring ring feet and three legs, with popular decorative patterns such as concave string patterns and dotted line motifs. Among them, representative items include flat or diagonally walled jar-shaped ding, high-ring-footed bowl-shaped dou, plate-shaped dou, single-handled cups, kettle-shaped cups, and large flared ring-footed butterfly-shaped dou. The age of the site is roughly equivalent to that of the first phase of the Xuejiagang culture (about 6,000 years ago).
