Langyuan Stone Forest

Located five kilometers from the county town of Tonglu, it is currently the largest, richest in content, and most distinctive natural seascape of stones among all attractions in Tonglu. Stones are interspersed with forests, forests nestle among stones, stones and woods complement each other, and the sound of spring water tinkles—unlike Yunnan’s Stone Forest, yet surpassing Yunnan’s stone landscapes. "A must-visit in a lifetime, a reward for a lifetime." Ancient people called it "Langyuan’s landscapes, the finest in the region." Stone carvings from the Song and Ming dynasties and divine sculptures in cave chambers are unparalleled in the Jiangnan area. The hundred-meter-long Dragon Waterfall soars through the air, a unique sight in the region. Along the way, flowing springs weave and tumble, their sounds captivating, until the full view unfolds—layer upon layer of mountains, peaks high and low, winding streams, tinkling springs, lush forests, graceful bamboo, oddly-shaped rocks, caves of all kinds, towering temples, and serene nunneries.

Activities in the scenic area include: drifting on Longxie Lake; the ancient post road and Yan Qing’s night crossing of Black Peak Ridge; Langxian Cave, viewing stone carvings and reliving history; Monkey Play Terrace—observing wild macaques; a specialty tent camping site; a thousand-year-old ancient pagoda (bone pagoda); fun barbecues on alpine grasslands; and the Langyuan Stone Scenery World.
