Tianzi Di Scenic Area in Tonglu

Tianzi Di Scenic Area is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

The Tianzi Di Scenic Tourism Area in Tonglu is located within Luoshan in Tonglu County, Zhejiang Province, more than 37 kilometers from downtown Tonglu and just 10 kilometers from Fenshui Town. It lies along the essential route of Provincial Highway 05–16 leading to Qiandao Lake. Legend has it that Liu Yu, the founding emperor of the Southern Song Dynasty 1,600 years ago, was born here. In 420 AD, after ascending the throne, Liu Yu revisited his hometown in Luoshan and bestowed the title “Tianzi Di” (Land of the Son of Heaven) upon this place.

The Tianzi Di Scenic Area covers a total area of over four square kilometers and consists of two major sightseeing zones: the Tianzi Di Ecological Valley and Tianzi Cave. The area features a deep valley, numerous waterfalls, ancient trees that are thousands of years old, vast forests spanning tens of thousands of acres, and karst caves that are hundreds of millions of years old, along with over 100 scenic spots of various sizes. It is praised as “The beauty of Fuchun’s landscape is best seen at Tianzi Di.”

A mystical local legend also exists. Long ago, when the Eight Immortals were traveling across the skies and passed by this place, they noticed two mountain ranges resembling two green dragons. Just as they were marveling at the sight, a red cloud descended from the sky into the valley. Iron-Crutch Li calculated with his fingers and repeatedly exclaimed, “This is the birthplace of a future emperor!” Though it is a myth, it is said that Liu Yu, the founding emperor of the Southern Dynasties’ Song (Liu Song) over 1,600 years ago, was indeed born here.

By Bus: Take a bus from Hangzhou to Tonglu. Buses depart every 20 minutes from both Hangzhou West Bus Station and South Bus Station. After arriving in Tonglu, transfer to a bus heading to Baijiang Town to reach the scenic area.

By Car:

1. From Hangzhou, take the Hangzhou Ring Expressway to the Hang-Xin-Jing (Hang-Qian) Expressway, drive directly to Tonglu, exit the expressway, pass through downtown Tonglu, then take Provincial Highways 16 and 05 toward Qiandao Lake. Pass Yaolin and Fenshui to reach the scenic area.

2. Starting from Shanghai, enter the Shanghai-Hangzhou Expressway via Xinzhuang, exit at Hangzhou North, then directly get on the Hangzhou Ring Expressway (do not enter downtown Hangzhou), exit at Zhuantang. Drive along National Highway 320 toward Fuyang and Tonglu, then follow Provincial Highways 23 and 05 toward Qiandao Lake. Pass Yaolin and Fenshui to reach the scenic area.
