Damaitu Relic Site

The Damaitu Relic Site is a protected cultural heritage site of Zhejiang Province.

The Damaitu Relic Site is located in Liuyan Village, Hengcun Town. It was discovered in 1993 during soil extraction at the village’s red brick factory. The site stretches from north to south, higher in the south and lower in the north, measuring approximately 200 meters in length and 50 meters in width from east to west. The total area covers about 10,000 square meters. It is flanked by small hills to the east and west, and a mountain basin to the south, with thick layers of loess soil.

The Damaitu Relic Site is the first Neolithic Liangzhu Culture site discovered in the Fenshui River basin within Tonglu. It dates back approximately 5,300 to 4,500 years. Archaeological surveys have unearthed jade artifacts such as jade axes, jade bi disks, stone adzes, stone knives, and stone arrowheads, marking the first discovery of a high-level settlement site from the Liangzhu Culture period in western Zhejiang. In January 2003, it was designated as part of the third batch of county-level protected cultural heritage sites in Tonglu County; in January 2011, it was listed as part of the sixth batch of provincial-level protected cultural heritage sites in Zhejiang Province.

Hengcun Town: Located to the west of Tonglu County, Hengcun Town is 10 kilometers from the county seat and lies adjacent to Provincial Highway 16, making transportation convenient. The town is one of the earliest birthplaces of township industries in Zhejiang Province, with its knitting sector playing a significant role in the province’s foreign trade exports. Hengcun has been awarded the title of "China’s Famous Knitting Town" by the China National Light Industry Council.
