Linyang

Linyang is located on the southern bank of the inlet section of the Feiyun River, by the East China Sea. It borders Gexiang to the east and Pingyang to the south, covering a total area of 8.7 square kilometers. According to the Provincial Chronicles of Famous Villages, Linyang was anciently known as Sizhuang. It lies in the central section of the drainage channel of the alluvial plain on the southern bank of the lower reaches of the Feiyun River, and over 1,800 years ago, it was still a coastal shoal. During the Three Kingdoms period under the Wu Kingdom, a shipbuilding center was established at the foot of Hengyu Mountain to the south of this shoal, named Hengyu Shipyard. At that time, this shoal could accommodate tens of thousands of vessels and was known as the “Ten-Thousand-Boat Shoal.”

Linyang is a typical water town in southern Zhejiang, and some scholars have referred to it as the “Venice of Southern Zhejiang.”
