Tongxi

Located in Tongpu Township, Ruian City, it derives its name from the ancient phoenix trees that once lined the stream. The scenic area consists of the Lake Heart Island Scenic Zone, Dragon Pool Scenic Zone, and Yan’an Scenic Zone. During the Southern Dynasties, Tao Hongjing, known as the “Prime Minister in the Mountains,” praised it as “a true paradise on earth,” and it has long been celebrated as the “Little West Lake.”

The scenic area centers around the Tongxi Reservoir and its surrounding landscapes, where shimmering waters and rolling hills complement each other. With rippling blue waves, gliding boats, and mountains encircling the lake—and hills within the lake itself—it embodies a heavenly realm on earth. On both sides of the reservoir, nestled in small valleys, lie the Dragon Pools, where layered rocky outcrops, clear spring-fed streams, and lush forests create a richly wild mountain atmosphere. It’s a lake-and-mountain integrated destination that equally supports both water and land activities.

The scenic area also features over 50 peculiar rocks, including Fishing Rock, Straw Hat Rock, Golden Milk Rock, and Peach of Longevity Rock. Hiking along the paths by the reservoir leads to numerous caves, such as Bat Cave, Guanyin Cave, and Sky-Reach Cave. These strange rocks, unique crags, and deep caverns, along with ancient relics, are of great historical and natural value.
