Martyr Quan Xuemei Memorial Hall

The Martyr Quan Xuemei Memorial Hall is a classic site for red tourism.

Quan Xuemei (1913–1930), female, was from Shangbu Village, Zhouchang, South District, Rui’an. In 1927, she joined the South District Peasant Association and served as the head of the South District Women’s Association. In the spring of 1928, she joined the Chinese Communist Party and led the women’s movement across the district. Within less than a year, she had helped the Women’s Association achieve widespread development in the rural areas of the South District. In June of the same year, she participated in an armed uprising by peasants of the South District — the attack on Rui’an County Town. In 1929, she joined the Red Guards of the South District as a courier. In May 1930, she took part in the 13th Red Army’s attack on Pingyang County Town. On July 16, she led women in attending an anti-warlord rally held in Taoshan; on the 19th, she joined the South District guerrillas in attacking the KMT’s Xing??li Militia; and on October 12, she was arrested by special agents of the KMT’s “South District Public Security Council” in Shangbu Village. The KMT agents tortured her severely to extract a confession. Though tortured to the point of being covered in wounds, Quan Xuemei remained resolute and unyielding, showing great moral courage. The next day, she was executed by the KMT at Xiqiaotou in Xianjiang.

The Martyr Quan Xuemei Memorial Hall is located in Shangbu Village, Yunzhou Office, Feiyun Town, Rui’an City. In 2008, villagers of X?? Natural Village in Shangbu Village built a memorial pavilion at the site where Martyr Quan Xuemei was arrested, as part of the new rural construction effort. In 2009, the Shangbu Village Committee constructed a memorial exhibition room on the left side of the pavilion, combining the pavilion and the exhibition room into the Martyr Quan Xuemei Memorial Hall. The completed memorial hall covers a total area of 900 square meters. The original memorial pavilion on the right has a floor area of 200 square meters and consists of two stories; the newly built exhibition room on the left covers an area of approximately 220 square meters and displays exhibits on the life and deeds of Martyr Quan Xuemei.

The Martyr Quan Xuemei Memorial Hall serves as a patriotism education base for young people in Rui’an City.
