Site of the Anti-Warlord Demonstration Congress

The Site of the Anti-Warlord Demonstration Congress is a cultural tourism attraction.

In May 1930, the 13th Army of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army was proclaimed in Xinanxi, Yongjia. The following month, the Special Committee of the CCP in Southern Zhejiang was re-established in the eastern district of Rui'an. On July 16, to further mobilize the masses and expand their influence, the Special Committee of Southern Zhejiang and the 13th Red Army held an Anti-Warlord War and Support the Soviet Congress in Taoshan, Rui'an (behind Taoshan Temple). The venue was a flat mountain field covering over 10 acres. Over 10,000 people attended the congress, including leaders from the Special Committee of Southern Zhejiang, the Rui'an County Committee, and the Yongjia County Committee; representatives from the Rui'an Northern District Guerrilla Unit, Yongjia’s “Huichang Team,” and the 13th Red Army; as well as organizations from local peasant associations and women’s associations. The congress was presided over by a leader of the Special Committee of Southern Zhejiang, with speeches given by various representatives and the announcement of the establishment of the Southern Zhejiang Revolutionary Committee. During the event, the Nationalist Party, upon hearing the news, dispatched two companies of troops to suppress it but were defeated by the Red Army and guerrilla forces. This event was referred to as “an unprecedented grand gathering in Southern Zhejiang,” and was reported by the CCP Central Committee’s official newspaper, the Red Flag Daily, on September 12, 1930.

The Site of the Anti-Warlord Congress is located behind Taoshan Temple in Taofeng Village, Taoshan Town, Rui'an City, 20 kilometers from downtown Rui'an. The site has now been converted into the playground of Rui'an No. 9 Middle School.
