Central Gathering Site of the Second Xianjiang Peasant Uprising
In May 1930, the 13th Army of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army was officially established in Yongjia. The following month, the Special Committee of South Zhejiang was re-established in Rui'an. On July 16 of the same year, the Special Committee of South Zhejiang and the 13th Red Army held an anti-warlord rally in Taoshan, Rui'an, reigniting revolutionary fervor. To further combat the reactionary rule of the Kuomintang in southern Rui'an, the Rui'an County Committee of the Chinese Communist Party instructed the guerrilla forces of the southern district to launch armed actions. On the 19th, over 2,000 guerrillas and peasant fighters from the southern district of Rui'an gathered at Xiashè Palace in Xianjiang. Led by Li Chaoli, captain of the southern district guerrillas, they attacked the militia of Li Boxiang in Xìng???lǐ, capturing key members of the militia, seizing their weapons and ammunition, confiscating grain and textiles from the estate of the local landlord Li Boxiang, and burning down the Li family compound.
The Central Gathering Site of the Second Xianjiang Peasant Uprising is located at Xiashè Palace in Xiashè Village, Xianjiang Town, Rui'an City, approximately 10 kilometers from downtown Rui'an. Xiashè Palace was built during the Ming Dynasty as a religious site for villagers. A memorial stone tablet commemorating the Second Xianjiang Peasant Uprising has been erected on-site, and the interior displays historical photos and materials related to the uprising.
Xiashè Palace, the Central Gathering Site of the Second Xianjiang Peasant Uprising, is a cultural heritage site protected by Rui'an City.
