Former Site of the 10th Expanded Meeting of the Southern Zhejiang Regional Committee

The Former Site of the 10th Expanded Meeting of the Southern Zhejiang Regional Committee is a classic red tourism attraction.

In January 1944, the Rui’an County Committee of the Chinese Communist Party moved into Aohou Village of Yongfeng Township (now Aohou Village of Guifeng Township), where it recruited party members and established a Party branch. It later expanded to areas such as Heshang??, Banliao, Huanglin, and Qiaotoulu in Yongfeng Township, establishing the Guifeng Base Area. Since then, Aohou became one of the permanent locations for both the Rui’an County Committee and the Southern Zhejiang Special Committee. In early 1949, with the basic conclusion of the three major campaigns across China, the main military forces that the Kuomintang relied on to maintain its reactionary rule had been largely destroyed. To support the People’s Liberation Army’s crossing of the Yangtze River and the liberation of all of Southern Zhejiang, from March 9 to April 13, 1949, the Southern Zhejiang Regional Committee held its 10th Expanded Meeting at the ancestral hall of the Zhang family in Aohou Village. The meeting was chaired by Long Yue, Secretary of the Regional Committee, and attended by committee members and alternate members, heads of some county committees and detachments, and heads of various departments within the Regional Committee. The meeting reviewed previous work, set the overall guidelines and specific tasks for future efforts, passed a series of documents including the “Decision on the Reception and Management of Cities,” strengthened the leadership team of the Regional Committee, adjusted the jurisdictions of some county committees, and added new members to some county committees.

The Former Site of the 10th Expanded Meeting of the Southern Zhejiang Regional Committee is located in Aohou Village, Guifeng Township, Rui’an City, approximately 65 kilometers from downtown Rui’an. The Zhang Family Ancestral Hall was built in the late Qing Dynasty. In 2008, villagers of the Zhang family in Aohou collectively funded the reconstruction of the original ancestral hall. The rebuilt ancestral hall consists of two two-story buildings made of cement, brick, and wood, arranged front and back, enclosed by a brick wall, covering a total area of 500 square meters with a total floor space of about 800 square meters.
