Former Site of the Expanded Meeting of the Rui’an County Committee of the Communist Party of China

The Former Site of the Expanded Meeting of the Rui’an County Committee of the Communist Party of China is a classic red tourism attraction.

From March 9 to April 13, 1949, in order to coordinate with the Chinese People’s Liberation Army’s southward crossing of the Yangtze River and the liberation of all of southern Zhejiang, the CPC Southern Zhejiang Regional Committee held the 10th Expanded Meeting of the Southern Zhejiang Regional Committee in Aohou Village, Yongfeng Township, Rui’an County (now Aohou Village, Guifeng Township).

To implement and communicate the spirit of the meeting and arrange local work in Rui’an, starting on April 18, the Rui’an County Committee of the CPC held an expanded meeting at the ancestral hall of the Zhang family in Wuhuang Village, Yongfeng Township (now Wuhuang Village, Yong’an Township)—also known as the “Wuhuang Meeting.” The meeting was chaired by Zheng Jiashun, Secretary of the Rui’an County Committee of the CPC, and attended by committee members, heads of various district committees, and key cadres of the county committee’s guard unit. The meeting conveyed the spirit of the 10th Expanded Meeting of the Southern Zhejiang Regional Committee, reviewed the work of the Rui’an County Committee over the past two months, and discussed how to coordinate with the main forces in combat and liberate all of Rui’an. By April 22, the county committee had received the “Order to March on the Whole Country” from Chairman Mao and Commander Zhu, transmitted by the Southern Zhejiang Regional Committee and the Southern Zhejiang Guerrilla Column, along with news of the PLA’s successful crossing of the Yangtze River. Soon after, the committee also received instructions from the Southern Zhejiang Regional Committee and the Southern Zhejiang Guerrilla Column to swiftly liberate Wenzhou and all of southern Zhejiang. In accordance with the directives from the Southern Zhejiang Regional Committee, the expanded meeting immediately conducted research and made specific arrangements on how to mobilize the masses, coordinate with the main forces, liberate all of Rui’an, and prepare to take over and establish people’s political power.

The Former Site of the Expanded Meeting of the Rui’an County Committee of the Communist Party of China is located in Wuhuang Village, Yong’an Township, Rui’an City, approximately 50 kilometers from downtown Rui’an. The site consists of two front and back bungalows and an open courtyard in between, covering a total area of about 300 square meters. The two bungalows together occupy 200 square meters (each is 14 meters long and 7 meters wide), and the courtyard covers 100 square meters. The site currently serves as the ancestral hall of the Zhang family in Wuhuang Village and is collectively managed and used by the villagers of the Zhang clan in Wuhuang Village.
