Site of the Founding of the Rui’an Communist Party of China Group

The Site of the Founding of the Rui’an Communist Party of China Group is a cultural tourism attraction and a classic red tourism destination.

In 1926, Lin Qu Bing and Ye Zi Wu were dispatched by the Wenzhou Independent Branch of the CPC to their hometown Rui’an to develop the Party organization. After arriving in Rui’an, they successively recruited four progressive young intellectuals — Dai Yi, Xu Ze Min, Guo Yan Jiu, and Chen Ming Da — into the Party, and in November of the same year, founded the Rui’an Communist Party of China Group at Huasang Building, located northeast of Liangmianhe outside Xiaodongmen in Rui’an’s urban area. This was the earliest CPC organization established in the Rui’an region and was under the leadership of the Wenzhou Independent Branch of the CPC. Subsequently, Lin Qu Bing and others further developed Party members in both urban and rural areas, establishing Party branches in the urban area, Xincheng, Zhao Ping (character unclear), and Xianjiang. In February 1927, after the expansion of the Rui’an Party organization, the Rui’an Communist Party of China Group was restructured into the Rui’an Special Branch of the CPC, which continued to operate from Huasang Building. Huasang Building became an important site for the activities of the Rui’an Party organization.

Huasang Building, also known as Feiyun Pavilion, the Site of the Founding of the Rui’an Communist Party of China Group, is located on Xiaodongmen Street, Yuhai Subdistrict, Rui’an City. It was built in the 24th year of the Guangxu reign during the Qing Dynasty (1898) by retired official Huang Ti Fang and others. The pavilion has five bays (14.7 meters) in width and seven rafters (11.5 meters) in depth, with two stories, covering a land area of about 200 square meters and a construction area of about 300 square meters. The building features architectural characteristics of the late Qing Dynasty. After the liberation, Huasang Building was listed as one of the first batch of cultural relics protection units by the former Rui’an County People’s Government. It was later occupied by Rui’an Pharmaceutical Factory and severely damaged. In 2001, due to the construction of the Nandemen Power Substation, Huasang Building was demolished.
