Shanhuangcheng Ruins

The Shanhuangcheng Ruins are a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Zhejiang Province.

The Shanhuangcheng Ruins are located in Xianjiang Town, Rui'an City, dating back to the Ming Dynasty.

Also known as Shanhuangzhai, the fortress was originally built in the second year of the Xuanhe era during the Song Dynasty (1120), and is the only remaining out of ten ancient passes within the former Rui'an region. The fortress has housed soldiers, bandits, and—according to historical records—was once a base for Qi Jiguang's army during the anti-Wokou campaigns, before eventually becoming a mountain village.

On January 7, 2011, it was announced as part of the sixth batch of Zhejiang Provincial Cultural Heritage Protection Units.
