Sun Long: A painter of the Ming Dynasty, also referred to as Sun Long (sometimes written as Sun Long), with the courtesy name Tíngzhèn and the sobriquet Dūchī. He was from Pílíng (present-day Changzhou, Jiangsu Province). Skilled in painting flowers and birds, his works—including feathers, insects, melons and fruits, as well as vegetables such as cabbage and purple eggplant, animals like field mice and locusts, and birds such as mountain sparrows and doves—often carry a wild and unrestrained charm. His painting techniques evolved from the boneless style of Song Dynasty painters Xu Chongsi and Zhao Chang, developing into a unique style of his own. Primarily using color rendering, he was also adept at ink-wash paintings with light coloring. His style ranged from meticulously detailed works to bold ink washes, and he sometimes blended precise outlines with boneless techniques, achieving harmony between color and ink. *Flowers, Birds, Grass, and Insects by Sun Long [Ming]*...
