Meiyuan Terraces is a cultural relic protection unit of Zhejiang Province.

Meiyuan Terraces is a vast group of terraced fields, a natural scenic spot located in Chongtou Town, Yunhe County. It is 5 kilometers from the town government, 12 kilometers from the Lishui–Longquan Expressway, and 20 kilometers from the county government. Accessible via a third-grade asphalt road, the site offers convenient transportation and easy access. Photographers can shoot from the road itself. Wuping Village, 12 kilometers away, and Xiayang Village, 18 kilometers away, are the main photography spots. The scenic area offers long shooting routes and can accommodate a large number of tourists.

The Meiyuan Terraces range in elevation from 300 to 800 meters, covering a total area of about 5 square kilometers. The larger sections have a vertical height of up to 500 meters and extend horizontally over 3,000 meters and vertically more than 1,500 meters.

The Meiyuan Terraces wind around the mountainside like chains or ribbons, layer upon layer, with varying heights and undulating contours. Their lines flow smoothly like drifting clouds or flowing water, elegant and graceful. The terraces are grand in scale and imposing in presence. The majestic momentum harmonizes with delicate and clean lines and dots, creating a charming and graceful world of curves. They feature a large area, beautiful lines, aesthetically pleasing shapes, and strong three-dimensional effects.

The surrounding environment is beautiful, with mountains, water, terraces, and villages blending seamlessly into one. Under clear conditions, the reflection of sunlight creates stunning and surprising colors.

Due to the high altitude, the water in the terraces and valleys evaporates and rises, forming sea of clouds under the influence of air currents. The moisture is then fully absorbed by the forest, turning into misty rain and lingering among the high mountain woods. The mountaintops and fields are often shrouded in white clouds, creating a play of light and shadow with layers that form an ever-changing natural scroll.

The Meiyuan Terraces are mainly used for rice cultivation and have a history of several hundred years. They were formed by local residents building embankments and ridges according to different terrains and soil types. The Meiyuan Terraces reflect the strong will of the mountain people to survive in nature over the long years, showcasing their wisdom and strength in understanding nature and building their homes.

Location of the Scenic Spot

Chongtou Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Yunhe County. It was called Taiping Township in 1956, Meiyuan Management Area in 1958, renamed as a commune in 1961, reverted to Meiyuan Township in 1954, became a town in 1989, and was renamed Chongtou Town. Located southwest of the county seat, it is 9.5 kilometers from the county town. It covers an area of 65.8 square kilometers and has a population of 10,000. The town administers 13 village committees: Meiyuan, Huangdi, Yanxia, Yangbei, Lixi, Sanwanglan, Chongtou, Xiayang, Nanshan, Kenggen, Zhanghua, Meizhu, and Longpu.
