Lanxi City Museum is located on the banks of the Lan River, where “three rivers converge amid drifting clouds, and the water system cradles the midstream isle.” It is a local comprehensive museum themed around the history and culture of Lanxi, with a construction area of 5,000 square meters. The building integrates elements of local traditional culture and Huizhou architectural features, harmonizing in style with the Jiezi Garden. It comprises five main sections: exhibition halls, cultural relics storage, office spaces, a security center, and a lecture hall. The exhibition halls are divided into permanent and temporary displays. The permanent exhibition at Lanxi City Museum is a comprehensive showcase featuring the city’s local history and culture. Through a broad spatiotemporal framework, it systematically introduces Lanxi’s geological evolution, social changes, and folk customs. It is divided into five major units: Ancient Footsteps and the Dawn of Civilization, Confluence of Three Rivers and Hub of Seven Provinces, Literary Heritage and Outstanding Figures, Ingenious Creations and Folk Treasures, and Pearl of Central Zhejiang – Harmonious Lan City. This systematic presentation covers Lanxi from the geological era to the present day, highlighting key aspects and highlights of its history, culture, and socioeconomic development. It emphasizes the authentic spirit of Lanxi and serves as an important window into the city’s natural environment and historical-cultural characteristics. The Lanxi City Museum boasts a rich collection with a strong regional cultural flavor. The collections are categorized by vertebrate fossils, stone tools, jade artifacts, ceramics, bronzes, ironware, gold and silverware, calligraphy and paintings, and ancient rare books. Notably distinctive are the Wuzhou kiln ceramics, historical bronzes, Song dynasty gold and silverware, and the Ming Dynasty Northern Canon scriptures.
