The Jianglang Mountain & Nianbadu Scenic Area has long been designated as a “UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site.” With an elevation of 360 meters, Jianglang Mountain is known for its reputation as “the most spectacular in the world and the most beautiful in the southeast.” It boasts China’s premier Danxia peak, the country’s most impressive One-Line Sky, as well as the millennia-old Kaiming Zen Temple and the thousand-year-old Jianglang Academy. Nianbadu Town, which was established during the Northern Song Dynasty, features a wealth of well-preserved Ming and Qing dynasty architecture.

Located 25 kilometers south of Jiangshan City in Quanjing Village, Jianglang Township, Jianglang Mountain is world-renowned for its majestic and unique “Three Slices of Stone.” It offers over a hundred scenic spots including China’s premier Danxia peak, the country’s most impressive One-Line Sky, the naturally formed Monumental Leader Peak, the thrilling and steep Langfeng Sky Walk, the millennia-old Kaiming Zen Temple, the thousand-year-old Jianglang Academy, and the largest cliff-carved Mao Zedong calligraphy artwork of the numeral “0” in the nation.

Situated at the junction of Zhejiang, Fujian, and Jiangxi provinces, Jianglang Mountain is a national key scenic area and a national AAAA-level tourist attraction. It represents a rare example of high-altitude isolated peak Danxia landform in both China and the world. In August 2010, at the 34th UNESCO World Heritage Committee session held in Brazil, “China Danxia” was inscribed on the World Heritage List with the approval of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, and Jianglang Mountain was included, becoming Zhejiang Province’s first World Natural Heritage site.

Jianglang Mountain’s natural landscape is strikingly majestic. Located 25 kilometers from downtown Jiangshan, it is world-famous for its magnificent and unique “Three Slices of Stone,” earning the reputation of being “the most spectacular in the world and the most beautiful in the southeast.” The three towering stone peaks rise from the ground like bamboo shoots, reaching into the clouds and touching the sky. They were identified by 56 geologists from East China as China’s premier Danxia peak. The “One-Line Sky” is 312 meters high, 298 meters long, and no more than 4 meters wide at its broadest point, making it the most impressive of its kind in China. The “Monumental Leader Peak” is a natural wonder, considered a unique treasure of China. Additionally, the thrilling and steep Langfeng Sky Walk, the millennia-old Kaiming Zen Temple, the thousand-year-old Jianglang Academy, and other attractions such as the traces of Xu Xiake’s travels, the Cave Rock Bells and Drums, and the Immortal Dwelling Sword Waterfall each showcase their own remarkable features.

Jianglang Mountain is rich in cultural heritage. Over the centuries, numerous distinguished scholars and literati have left behind a wealth of poetic works and inscriptions inspired by the mountain. Esteemed Tang Dynasty officials Yao Chong and Zhang Jiuling, as well as the great poet Bai Juyi, once wrote poems praising the mountain. The eminent scholar Zhu Dongshan of Jiangshan lived in seclusion on Jianglang for many years and established a school to teach students. During the Song Dynasty, prominent statesman Wang Anshi and poet Mao Pang studied at Xianju Temple. Celebrated figures such as Lu You, Xin Qiji, Lü Gongzhu, and Shen Jiuju composed poems and lyrics extolling the beauty of Jianglang. After the Southern Song Dynasty court moved south, literati frequently traveled along the ancient Xianxia Road that connected Zhejiang and Fujian, leaving behind more than a thousand poems and essays, which earned the route the title “Poetry Road of the Southern Song.” The great Ming Dynasty geographer Xu Xiake visited Jianglang Mountain three times, leaving behind over 2,600 words of travel notes that greatly enriched the cultural significance of the site.
