Shigu Fragrant Stream

Shigu Gorge is located about 2.5 kilometers southeast of Bao’an, stretching over 10 kilometers in length with an area of 1,221.83 hectares. Key attractions include the Three Pools of Shigu, Wild Tea Valley, Golden Rooster Rock, Shigu Peak, Millennium Torreya Tree, the Wind-moving Rock, and the Dragon King Temple. The landscape features undulating mountains and deep, rugged valleys, with numerous springs flowing down the slopes to form streams. Water suspends as waterfalls, plunges into pools, and gathers into lakes. At the mouth of Shigu Gorge lies Shigu Lake, its surface as smooth as a mirror, surrounded by tranquil green bamboo and clear reflections. Deep within the gorge, the Three Pools of Shigu are nestled among lush greenery, serene and pristine; the QiuLong Stream rushes like an arrow, crashing against scattered rocks with sounds like clashing weapons. Waterfalls vary with water volume and terrain—some delicate as strands of silk, others cascading like beaded curtains, or coiling like dragons in zigzags. It’s like a long scroll painting unfolding before visitors.

Due to the influence of the terrain, the air is very humid, with frequent heavy fog in the early morning and evening. Especially during the rainy season, clouds and mist often shroud the area. Viewing the scenery through the mist or the mountains in the rain presents extraordinarily beautiful and unique landscapes.

Beyond the Dragon King Temple inside Shigu Gorge, apart from local mountain dwellers, the area sees very few visitors and remains almost completely untouched. The Longjingkeng Secondary Primitive Forest on the western side of Shigu Gorge has remained undisturbed by human activity for centuries and is one of the largest such forests in Zhejiang. Towering ancient trees, countless vines, and old trunks thrive here, with birds and animals roaming freely, earning it the nickname “Zhejiang’s Xishuangbanna.”

Transportation: Driving route: Take the Huang-Qun-Nan section of the Beijing–Taipei Expressway, exit at Xiakou, then drive along National Highway 205 toward Bao’an for 15 minutes to reach Bao’an. Alternatively, depart from downtown Jiangshan, take Jianghe Highway and National Highway 205, turn left at the Bao’an intersection (40 km from downtown) to arrive.
