Fengli Jiang Clan Ancestral Hall

The Fengli Jiang Clan Ancestral Hall is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Zhejiang Province.

The Fengli Jiang Clan Ancestral Hall is located in Fenglin Town, Jiangshan City, and dates back to the Qing Dynasty.

The Fengli Jiang Clan Ancestral Hall is situated at No. 10, Lijiangci Lane, Fenglin Town, Jiangshan City, Quzhou, Zhejiang Province.

The Fengli Jiang Clan Ancestral Hall was built in the 10th year of the Hongzhi reign during the Ming Dynasty, which is 1499 AD. It has a history of 518 years. The hall faces east and covers an area of 1,024 square meters. On both sides of the main entrance stand two exquisitely carved and imposing stone drums, each one meter tall, made from bluestone. Standing beside the drums, you can almost hear the thunderous sounds of war drums from the Ming Dynasty, or the “dong dong” sounds of commoners appealing for justice at the yamen during that era.

The Jiang Clan Ancestral Hall consists of three sections with two courtyards, five bays, two viewing platforms, and two wing rooms. It features a flush-gable roof, with a gate tower at the main entrance. It is said that the original structure had three tiers of upturned eaves, but today only two remain. The upturned eaves on the northeast side have collapsed. The stone drums on either side of the gate still silently guard this over 500-year-old ancestral hall, recording the rise and fall of the Jiang clan’s history, while also hoping for future generations to restore its former glory.

The second section features a mixed post-and-lintel and raised-beam frame, with double-tiered upturned eaves on the front corridor. The central and side bays all use raised-beam frames, with four pillars and seven rafters, and single-step corridors in the front and rear. The smaller side rooms use a post-and-lintel frame with five pillars.

The third section of the ancestral hall shares the same beam frame structure as the second section, and the courtyard is rectangular. The entire ancestral hall is tall and spacious, with a meticulously designed and intricately carved gate tower. According to records, the hall underwent renovations during the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty. In the early years after liberation, it served as the office of the People's Commune. In the 1980s, it was repurposed as a paper mill until its closure in April 2007.

In January 2001, it was designated as a provincial-level cultural heritage site in Zhejiang Province.

On January 7, 2011, it was announced as part of the sixth batch of Zhejiang Provincial Cultural Heritage Sites.
