Ding Zuyin’s Residence (Former Site of Xiangsu Tower) is a cultural heritage conservation unit of Suzhou.

It is located at No. 30, Xicangqian Shangtang, in the urban area. Ding Zuyin (1871–1930), originally named Ding Zude, with the courtesy name Zhison and the pseudonym Chuwu, was a native of Changshu. He passed the local imperial examination in the 15th year of the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty (1889) and became a scholar. He was a well-known government official, scholar, and literary figure in modern China. In the early years of the Republic of China, he served as the Civil Affairs Chief of Changshu and the Magistrate of Wujiang County (both equivalent to today's county governors). In 1917, he participated in the revision of the “Changzhao Combined Gazetteer” and served as the chief editor. He devoted his life to collecting and organizing local historical documents of Changshu, and authored works such as the “Ding Zhison Diary,” “A Small Collection of One Journey,” and “Collected Writings of Songling.” He also compiled “Yushan Series” and “Yuyang Story Garden.” His residence was originally built on the site of the “Huyin Garden,” within which the “Xiangsu Tower” served as his personal library. Currently, only three sections of the original architecture remain. The wooden frame structure is unique and relatively well-preserved. It was designated as a cultural relic protection unit of Changshu City in June 2011.

Ding Zuyin (1871–1930), originally named Zude, with the courtesy name Zhison and the pseudonym Chuwu, was a native of Changshu. He passed the local imperial examination in the 15th year of the Guangxu reign (1889). He later studied at Nanjing’s Nanzing Academy. In the 23rd year of the Guangxu reign, he co-founded the China-Western School with Zeng Pu, Xu Nianci, Yin Ciyi, and Zhang Hong at the Xue’ai Jinglu Study House in the eastern part of the city. The following year, he established the Mongyang School, pioneering a new trend in local education. He jointly managed the school with Zeng Pu and later served as its sole headmaster. Together with Zeng Pu and Xu Nianci, he also founded the First Public Primary and Secondary School at Zengyuan, which was later relocated to Huyin Garden and renamed Ding’s Primary School under his sole funding.
