Nanjing Yuhua Stone Museum is located in the Yuhuatai Scenic Area, on the site of the former Anwen Temple. The museum covers an exhibition area of over 500 square meters and is divided into five halls. The first hall displays pictures of Yuhua stones; the second hall consists of four sections: “Yuhua Stone Appreciation,” “Ancient Yuhua Stone Catalogs,” “Celebrities and Yuhua Stones,” and “Poetic Sentiments of Yuhua Stones”; the third, fourth, and fifth halls exhibit more than 100 pieces of handicrafts, as well as a large number of precious documents and specialized works on Yuhua stones dating from the Tang Dynasty to the present.

Yuhua stones are formed through the long-term erosion of the ancient Yangtze River. They are pebble-shaped, usually about the size of a broad bean, with a crystal-clear texture. When placed in water, their vibrant and colorful patterns emerge. Due to their small size, ease of collection and appreciation, and affordable price, they are very popular among the general public. Visitors to Nanjing often take Yuhua stones home as souvenirs. Since 1999, Nanjing has held an annual Yuhua Stone Art Festival, making it a featured “trump card” tourism event.

As a specialty of Nanjing, Yuhua stones have almost become a symbol of the city. To promote Yuhua stone culture and popularize scientific knowledge about them, the Nanjing Yuhua Stone Museum opened to the public in April 1990. In 1997, the Yuhuatai Scenic Area invested over 200,000 yuan to renovate the museum, enhancing the display effect of the Yuhua stones.
