The Memorial Hall of Revolutionary Martyrs at Yuhuatai is a classic destination for red tourism.

The Memorial Hall of Revolutionary Martyrs at Yuhuatai is situated on Renjia Mountain at the southern end of the Yuhuatai Martyrs' Cemetery in the southern part of Nanjing. Its appearance is that of a traditional double-eaved roof with a national architectural style. It measures 92 meters in length from east to west and 49 meters from north to south, with the central main tower standing 26 meters high. The white granite façade adds to the hall’s solemn and majestic ambiance. The entire building covers an area of 5,900 square meters. Construction began in April 1984, and it officially opened to the public on July 1, 1988. The name “Memorial Hall of Revolutionary Martyrs at Yuhuatai,” inscribed by Comrade Deng Xiaoping, is engraved above the entrance. At the center of the eaves is also carved the “Sun and Moon Together” motif, symbolizing the eternal spirit of the martyrs.

The simple yet elegant Memorial Hall of Revolutionary Martyrs at Yuhuatai was the last building designed by the renowned architect Mr. Yang Tingbao before his passing. In his time, Yang Tingbao was as famous as Liang Sicheng in China’s architectural circles and was hailed as the “Yang of the South, Liang of the North.” He was also the designer of the Purple Mountain Observatory in Nanjing. The building has a concave floor plan and is a modern structure with national architectural characteristics. The roof adopts a simplified version of the traditional Chinese double-eaved form, featuring a clean and solemn outline with a commemorative aesthetic. The specially made white glazed tiles, white mosaic-clad exterior walls, white marble window frames, and white railings give the entire building a unified white appearance, creating a striking contrast with the green woods around it. Under sunlight, it appears particularly majestic and magnificent.

The hall houses 10 exhibition rooms, nine of which are dedicated to displaying the deeds of revolutionary martyrs. The spacious and bright exhibition areas are organized along the four major historical periods of the Communist Party of China, interweaving key events from each era. The exhibits are arranged in the chronological order of the martyrs’ sacrifices, showcasing cultural relics and historical materials related to 127 revolutionary martyrs who died at Yuhuatai and in the Nanjing area.
