The Ge Family Ancestral Hall in Jiangyin
The Ge Family Ancestral Hall in Jiangyin is a cultural tourism attraction.
The Ge Family Ancestral Hall is located on Nan Yanhe Street in Qingyang Town. Originally built during the Qing Dynasty, it features a hard-mount brick-and-wood structure, spans five bays in width and seven bays in depth, covers an area of 600 square meters, and has a built-up area of 400 square meters. The Ge family was a prominent and officialdom-inclined clan in Jiangyin during the Song Dynasty, remarkable for producing as many as “thirty-three” imperial examination graduates from one family.
Qingyang Town: Qingyang, anciently known as Qing?, was established as a township during the Northern Song Dynasty. With written records dating back over 1,700 years, it boasts a long history. Polished stone tools and black pottery unearthed from the 1970s, identified as Liangzhu culture relics, prove that ancestors had settled and thrived here as early as 5,000 years ago during the Neolithic Age. By the Ming and Qing Dynasties, due to its strategic location along major waterways, Qingyang flourished with the scene of “a thousand households bustling with life” and “a convergence of boats and carts,” earning it the reputation of “Little Wuxi.”
Qingyang covers a total area of 67.6 square kilometers and has a population of 72,000. It is situated in China’s economically developed eastern coastal region—famed for the Suzhou-Wuxi-Changzhou (Suzhou, Wuxi...) area. More detailed information about Qingyang Town ++
