The Maoshan New Fourth Army Memorial Hall is a classic red tourism destination, as well as a base for patriotic education and national defense education.

The anti-Japanese base in southern Jiangsu centered around Maoshan was established in the summer of 1938 under the instructions of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Chairman Mao, when comrades such as Chen Yi and Su Yu led the New Fourth Army eastward to resist the Japanese. It was one of the earliest bases created by the Communist Party of China in the enemy's rear in central China. For a long time, it stood firm in the heart of the enemy territory, serving as a base, hub, and vanguard for the subsequent growth and development of the New Fourth Army and the anti-Japanese bases in central China, making significant contributions to the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japan and even the Liberation War.

To commemorate the great achievements of the older generation of proletarian revolutionaries and educate future generations, the Maoshan New Fourth Army Memorial Hall was built in September 1985 with the approval of the provincial party committee. In 1998, it was rebuilt on the original site.

The Maoshan New Fourth Army Memorial Hall is located in Maoshan Town, approximately 25 kilometers southeast of Jurong City, Jiangsu Province. Maoshan is a provincial-level scenic area in Jiangsu Province.

The current new museum covers an area of over 16,000 square meters, with an exhibition hall building area of more than 3,500 square meters. The exhibition is divided into five sections, displaying over 2,000 pieces of precious cultural relics and historical materials. Using high-tech methods such as sound, light, electricity, and multimedia, it recreates the glorious achievements and images of older-generation proletarian revolutionaries like Chen Yi and Su Yu, as well as the heroic struggles of the New Fourth Army and the people of southern Jiangsu during those years.

The exhibition hall features a unique and magnificent design, reflecting both the grandeur of Maoshan’s three peaks and the enduring legacy of the revolutionary predecessors.

The exhibition content is divided into five major sections: "The People of Southern Jiangsu Rise Up Against Japanese Invaders," "The Establishment of the Maoshan Anti-Japanese Base," "The New Fourth Army in Maoshan Moves East and North," "The Arduous Struggle of the Southern Jiangsu Anti-Japanese Base," and "The Victory of the People of Southern Jiangsu in the Anti-Japanese War." The entire exhibition presents detailed historical records, rich content, and diverse formats, authentically reflecting the glorious journey of the southern Jiangsu anti-Japanese base centered around Maoshan and vividly portraying the historical struggle of the New Fourth Army and the people of southern Jiangsu against the Japanese. Over the past decade since its opening, it has received an average of about 200,000 domestic and international visitors annually, becoming a moral education base for universities, military academies, and enterprises in Nanjing, Changzhou, Zhenjiang, and other areas. Since 1992, it has been designated by provincial and municipal authorities as an "Off-Campus Moral Education Base," "Youth Revolutionary Tradition Education Base," "Primary and Secondary School Moral Education Base," and "National Defense Education Base for All Citizens." Since 1996, it has been recognized as a "Civilized Unit" in Zhenjiang City. In April 2001, it was awarded the title of "Jiangsu Province Excellent Museum," in June it was named one of the second batch of 100 "Patriotic Education Demonstration Bases" by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, and in December it was approved as a "Provincial-Level Civilized Unit."
