The Chengshang Village Site is a Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the National Level.

Era: Neolithic Age to Zhou Dynasty

The Chengshang Village Site, located south of Dazhuo Chengshang Village, Huayang Town, Jurong City, Zhenjiang, Jiangsu Province, is an ancient site dating from the Neolithic Age to the Zhou Dynasty. In May 2013, it was designated by the State Council as part of the seventh batch of Major Historical and Cultural Sites Protected at the National Level. Pottery shards unearthed at the site are mainly composed of sandy red pottery and sandy red-brown pottery, along with small quantities of clay black pottery, clay red pottery, clay gray pottery, sandy black pottery, stoneware, and proto-porcelain; artifact types include tripods, li cooking vessels, cauldrons, jars, dou stem bowls, bowls, basins, vessel lids, gui food containers, and bu jars; decorative patterns include string patterns, added coil designs, arc-triangle motifs, perforations, incised lines, fingertip impressions, rope patterns, ladder-grid patterns, zigzag lines, and meander patterns; stone tools include stone adzes and stone knives. These unearthed items date from the Songze Culture period of the Neolithic Age all the way to the Western Zhou Dynasty. The Chengshang Village Site is large in area, well-preserved, with thick stratigraphic layers and abundant relics and remains. It is currently the best-preserved site of its kind in southern Jiangsu, and holds important academic significance for the study of Neolithic archaeological cultures in the lower Yangtze region, as well as the Hushu Culture and Wu Culture of the Shang and Zhou periods.
