The Chuncheng Tumulus Tomb Cluster

Queliang is home to more than a thousand tumulus tombs, but the Chuncheng Tumulus Tomb Cluster stands out due to its proximity to the Maoshan Scenic Area, the concentration of the tombs, and their relatively well-preserved state. As a result, it has been designated as a Jiangsu Provincial Cultural Heritage site. The cluster includes the Baibeishan Tumulus Tomb Cluster, Yangjiapeng Tumulus Tomb Cluster, and Ersheng Tumulus Tomb Cluster, featuring a total of 112 large, medium, and small tumulus tombs dating back to the Shang and Zhou dynasties.

Through this excavation, archaeologists gained groundbreaking insights into the structural layout and burial customs of tumulus tombs. This not only clarified long-standing academic uncertainties about these structures but also provided rich first-hand data for in-depth research on major topics such as the social structure and indigenous culture of the Bronze Age in the Jiangnan region, the origins, periods, and regional divisions of tumulus tombs, as well as their preservation and utilization.

On December 19, 2011, the Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government listed it as part of the seventh batch of Provincial Cultural Heritage sites.
