Dunmu Hall

Dunmu Hall is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Jiangsu Province.

Dunmu Hall, located in Jiagou Natural Village, Xinglong Village, Yaoqiao Town, is the ancestral hall of the Zhang family. Legend has it that it was built after Zhang He, a descendant of Zhang Liang from the Han Dynasty, settled here during the Jiajing era. The plaque above the entrance bears the stone-carved inscription “Glorify the Past and Enrich the Future.” Upon entering the first courtyard and looking up, one can see a plaque inscribed by Zhang Yushu with the characters “??”. Historical records indicate that Zhang Yushu once served as Minister of War and Minister of Rites, participated in the compilation of the History of Ming and the Kangxi Dictionary, and lived here after retiring from official life.

In March 2019, Dunmu Hall was included in the eighth batch of Jiangsu Provincial Cultural Heritage Protection Units.
