Site of Yancang City

The Site of Yancang City is a protected cultural heritage site of Jiangsu Province.

The Site of Yancang City is located in Yancheng Village, Haitou Town, Ganyu District, Lianyungang City. It was discovered in 1962. The remaining site includes a terrace that is 500 meters long from east to west and 700 meters wide from north to south, with remnant sections of the city wall on the southwest and northwest sides standing 3–4 meters high. The walls were built using rammed earth and layered construction, clearly showing different strata. Han Dynasty pottery shards and tiles have been found within the walls, along with unearthed artifacts such as arrowheads, knives, swords, bronze mirrors, and Han Dynasty wuzhu coins. Historical records indicate that Yancang City was the site of the salt administration office of the Ju State during the Spring and Autumn Period. A city was built here during the Han Dynasty, which once served as the county seat of Ganyu County.

The Miaotaizi Site, located approximately 100 meters southeast of the Site of Yancang City, contains three cultural layers: Han Dynasty, Shang-Zhou Dynasty, and Late Neolithic Age.

The Site of Yancang City holds significant value for the study of the ancient salt industry development history and historical geography of our city. It was announced as one of the first batch of protected cultural heritage sites of Ganyu County in 1989, and as part of the sixth batch of protected cultural heritage sites of Jiangsu Province in 2006.
