The Changmao Stone Sutra Pillar is a cultural relic protection unit of Lianyungang City.

The Changmao Stone Sutra Pillar

It is located in Changmao Village, Tianlou Town, Guannan County, Lianyungang City. Sutra pillars were popular during the Tang and Song dynasties but gradually disappeared after the Yuan and Ming dynasties. They are mostly hexagonal or octagonal in shape, consisting of three parts: the top, the body, and the base. They are commonly found near Buddhist temples, major transportation routes, and cemeteries. The Changmao Stone Sutra Pillar stands 50 meters east of the Guanhe River. This place was originally called Heshangzhuang, where a temple for monks once stood, hence the name. According to records in Esoteric Buddhism, sutra pillars possess infinite spiritual power, capable of exorcising evil and suppressing demons. Local folklore says the Changmao Stone Sutra Pillar was built to suppress a flood demon.

It was designated as part of the fourth batch of cultural relic protection units of Lianyungang City in 2010.

A 200-meter radius extending outward from the pillar itself.

Tianlou Town: Following the 2013 administrative division adjustment, Tianlou Township and Changmao Town were abolished, and the original areas were merged to establish the new Tianlou Town, with the town government located on Sanxing Street, Sanxing Neighborhood Committee, Changmao Town. After the adjustment, Tianlou Town covers an administrative area of 109.1 square kilometers, with a population of 77,000. It governs 25 village committees and 1 neighborhood committee.
