Meiling Jade Mine Ruins

The Meiling Jade Mine Ruins are a protected cultural heritage site of Jiangsu Province.

The Meiling Jade Mine Ruins are located at the border between Pingqiao in Tianmuhu Town, Liyang City, and Miaoxi in Guangde County. In the 1980s, the first tremolite nephrite jade deposit was discovered here.

Currently, the Meiling Jade Mine is the only known jade mine within the Taihu Lake region. Through comparative analysis of geological and mineral compositions, it has been found that the higher-quality nephrite from Meiling closely resembles the materials of some Liangzhu culture jade artifacts unearthed in areas such as Sidun in Wujin and Caoshanjian in Wu County, Jiangsu. The academic community believes that the Meiling Jade Mine in Liyang may have been one of the sources of raw materials for Liangzhu culture jade artifacts.

In 2019, the Meiling Jade Mine Ruins were included in the eighth batch of protected cultural heritage sites of Jiangsu Province.

Tianmuhu Town: Tianmuhu Town (District) was formed by merging the former Tianmuhu Tourism Resort, Tianmuhu Town People's Government, and Pingqiao Town—one district and two towns. It now covers an area of 204 square kilometers, with a population of 56,200, and governs 27 administrative villages and 3 neighborhood committees. The town (district) currently has 196 operational enterprises and 12 under construction.
