Shetou Bridge

Shetou Bridge is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangsu Province.

Shetou Bridge is located in Shetou Village, Daitou Town, Liyang City, Jiangsu Province. According to the "Qing Dynasty · Jiaqing Liyang County Annals," the bridge was built in the 61st year of the Kangxi reign during the Qing Dynasty (1662), 11 kilometers from the then Liyang County seat. According to local lore, the bridge was funded by selling blood spat out by a hen in gratitude, and it was constructed by master stonemasons from the Shanghuang area who chiseled the local stones one hammer strike at a time. The bridge is 30 meters long, with a deck about 3 meters wide. The upper part is an arch formed with stone slabs, while the lower part consists of stone piers. The base of the bridge features inverted stone arches to support the structure. Both the north and south ends have stone steps and stone railings, making it a fine example of stone arch bridge craftsmanship. It is currently the only surviving three-arch stone bridge in Liyang City and is one of the city's 39 municipal-level cultural relic protection units.

In accordance with the "Liyang Municipal People’s Government Notice on the Designation of Protection Zones for Municipal Cultural Relic Protection Units" (Li Zheng Fa [2004] No. 84), the protected area of Shetou Bridge includes the bridge itself and extends 10 meters east, 20 meters south, 8 meters west, and 15 meters north.

On December 19, 2011, the Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government designated it as a provincial-level cultural relic protection unit in the seventh batch.

Daitou Town: Daitou Town is located in the northeastern suburbs of Liyang City, bordered by Changdang Lake to the north and the Wutai Canal to the south. Provincial highways 239 and 241, as well as the Changli Expressway and the connecting line of the Nanjing-Hangzhou High-Speed Railway, run through the town. The Liyang (North) interchange is located within the town area, providing very convenient transportation by land, water, and air. The total area of the town is 43.7 square kilometers, encompassing 7 administrative villages and 1 neighborhood committee, with a registered population of 26,500. The built-up area of the town covers 5.2 square kilometers.
