Guanlian Bridge

Guanlian Bridge is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangsu Province.

Guanlian Bridge is located on the Changli River in Liyang Town, Liyang County, Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province, 4.5 kilometers from the city of Liyang, and is also known as "Kunlun Bridge." Legend has it that the bridge was built during the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty, when the river was covered with blooming lotus flowers, hence the name "Guanlian Bridge."

The Qing poet Peng Gui once wrote a poem praising the bridge: "My homeland I’ve long bid adieu, / This place I seldom come unto. / The warming waters teem with fry, / Beneath the shade birds wing the sky. / A skiff moored midspan, a fan half seen / Through bamboo screens — a fisher’s scene, / With rod in hand he heads to where / The fishing rocks lie in the air." This bridge is an old-style stone arch bridge, rebuilt in the 14th year of the Guangxu reign during the Qing Dynasty (1888). During the Anti-Japanese War, Japanese invaders attempted several times to blow up the bridge in order to thwart the advance of Chinese troops, but under the protection of local residents, the indomitable structure of Guanlian Bridge withstood all attacks. In 1998, the eight-episode TV series "Farmer Chen Huansheng," adapted from the famous writer Gao Xiaosheng's acclaimed "Chen Huansheng Goes to Town" novel series, filmed exterior scenes on and around Kunlun Bridge.

On December 19, 2011, the People's Government of Jiangsu Province listed it as part of the seventh batch of provincial-level cultural relic protection units.
