Changzhou Museum is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction and a patriotic education base.

Established in October 1958, Changzhou Museum is a comprehensive local museum that encompasses history, art, and natural sciences. It currently holds over 30,000 cultural relics, including 51 national first-class relics (one of which is a national treasure), 245 second-class relics, and 2,945 third-class relics. The collection is particularly noted for its Liangzhu jade ware, primitive celadon from the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, lacquerware and ceramics from the Song and Yuan dynasties, and calligraphy and paintings from the Ming and Qing dynasties. The museum also hosts Jiangsu Province’s only children’s natural history museum, which features 8,148 natural specimens. These are organized into six major collections: furred animals, marine life, fine insects from China and abroad, regional Chinese herbal medicines, mineral crystals, and paleontological fossils. Among them, the fossil of the Confucius Bird (Archaeoraptor), the wentletrap snail (Vermetus), and the Golden Birdwing butterfly (Ornithoptera aesacus) are world-rare specimens of immense scientific value.

On March 23, 2005, the construction projects for both Changzhou Museum and the Planning Exhibition Hall were officially approved, with construction beginning on May 26 of the same year. The museum opened to the public on April 28, 2007. Located at 1288 Longcheng Avenue, Xinbei District, Changzhou City—adjacent to the Changzhou Municipal Government—the museum has been free to the public since April 1, 2008.

With a construction area of 28,000 square meters, Changzhou Museum boasts a modern design, comprehensive facilities, advanced functionality, and a contemporary atmosphere. The exhibition area covers nearly 10,000 square meters across seven exhibition halls. The museum’s displays consist of two permanent exhibitions, two thematic exhibitions, and three temporary exhibition spaces. The permanent exhibitions include “Soaring Dragon over Central Wu: The History and Culture of Changzhou” and “The Marvelous Nature, Our Beautiful Home: Natural Resources Exhibition.” The thematic exhibitions are “The Art of Xie Zhiliu” and “The Redwood Furniture Donated by Mr. Liu Guojun.” The three temporary exhibition halls regularly host various special and touring exhibitions.

Since its opening in 2007, Changzhou Museum has welcomed 3.37 million domestic and international visitors, becoming a shining representation of Changzhou for promotional and international exchange purposes, as well as an important venue for VIP receptions and leisure tourism for the general public. The museum has been honored with several awards, including “China’s Most Innovative Museum of the Year” in 2016, National Advanced Collective in the Cultural System, Jiangsu Provincial Civilized Unit, Jiangsu Provincial Advanced Collective in the Cultural Relics System, and Jiangsu Provincial Outstanding Museum. As a national first-class museum, a national AAAA-level tourist attraction, a Jiangsu Provincial patriotic education base, and a Jiangsu Provincial science education base, Changzhou Museum—now a first-rate modern comprehensive museum at the prefectural level—welcomes domestic and international guests with a fresh image and high-quality services. 9:00–17:00 (last entry at 16:00), closed on Mondays.

Ticket Information:

Free admission. Visitors can collect a free ticket at the museum entrance on the day of their visit and then enter. The daily visitor limit is 10,000 people.
