Changzhou Tang Family Residence

The Changzhou Tang Family Residence is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The Changzhou Tang Family Residence is situated in the Qingguo Lane Historical and Cultural Block in Tianning District, Changzhou. Among its structures, the Zhenhe Hall’s Ming Dynasty nanmu hall is the most valuable, preserving the main wooden beam framework from the Ming era. Its wooden moon-beam system is one of the few such representations in the Changzhou area. On the eastern corridor wall of the nanmu hall, there is an inscribed stone tablet titled “Baohetang Ji” (Record of the Baohetang), written and calligraphed by the Ming Dynasty calligrapher Sun Shenxing. The Changzhou Tang Family Residence architectural complex was continuously expanded over time, reflecting the evolution of wooden construction techniques for residential buildings in the Jiangnan region from the Ming and Qing Dynasties through the Republican period. It also intersects with the lives of several notable figures, including Sun Shenxing, Zhang Tailei, Liu Guojun, and Zhou Youguang, making it an important historical witness.

On October 7, 2019, the Changzhou Tang Family Residence was included in the eighth batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.
