Liu Guojun’s Former Residence in Changzhou

Liu Guojun’s Former Residence in Changzhou is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangsu Province.

Liu Guojun’s Former Residence is located at No. 82–84 Qingguo Lane. Liu Guojun (1887–1978), a native of Jingjiang who settled in Changzhou, was a renowned patriotic industrialist and cultural relic collector of modern times. The residence was originally part of the Bagui Hall within the “Eight Mansions of the Tang Family.” It consists of four sections: the gatehouse, the main hall, the guest hall, and the scripture tower (Tianxiang Tower), all featuring single-eave wooden structures. The main hall is three bays wide, with the central bay measuring 3.75 meters in width and spanning eight rafters, and features a rear raised platform. The third section shares the same width as the main hall and spans nine rafters, with brick-carved door frames on the left and right passageways. Corridors run through the front and back on both sides, with a courtyard separating each section, planted with osmanthus trees. The entire residence is enclosed by walls to form a compound. Behind the rockery in the third section lies the scripture tower (Tianxiang Tower), which has three rooms on each of its two floors. In December 1987, it was listed as a provincial-level cultural relic protection unit.
