Memorial Hall of Hong Liangji

The Memorial Hall of Hong Liangji is a cultural relic protection unit of Changzhou and also serves as a patriotic education base.

The Memorial Hall of Hong Liangji is located at No. 20, Dongshizi Lane, Yanling East Road. Hong Liangji (1746–1809) was a renowned Qing Dynasty scholar of Confucian classics, writer, historian, and demographer, with over 40 works and more than 500 volumes to his name. His former residence was originally at the entrance of Xishizi Lane but was relocated to its current site and converted into the Memorial Hall of Hong Liangji due to urban redevelopment. The hall features an entrance lobby; the second section includes three rooms on the east side known as the "Wind and Snow Scripture Teaching Hall," where his mother supervised his studies, displaying Hong Liangji’s manuscripts and related materials; one room on the west side served as his late-life study, the "Regeneration Studio"; and the rear section is dedicated to the memorial of Hong Shen, Hong Liangji’s sixth-generation descendant. On December 31, 1994, the 100th anniversary of the birth of Hong Shen (1894–1955), a renowned modern dramatist and Hong Liangji’s sixth-generation descendant, the hall officially opened to the public (including the Hong Shen Memorial Hall inside), showcasing the life stories, works, manuscripts, personal belongings, and archival materials of both Hong Liangji and Hong Shen. In December 1987, it was designated as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit.
