Dasheng Nunnery

Dasheng Nunnery is a cultural relic protection unit of Changzhou City.

Dasheng Nunnery, located to the north of Mapiqiao Village, Xingouqiao Village Committee, Zhenglu Town, Tianning District, currently features a surviving one-courtyard, five-bay brick-and-timber structure facing south. It stands adjacent to the west of the Li Family Ancestral Hall. During the Ming Dynasty, Sun Shenxing once composed a poem about an ancient cypress tree in front of Dasheng Nunnery. On the southern wall of the nunnery is a stele inscription from the Qianlong era of the Qing Dynasty, which records that Dasheng Nunnery was repaired during the reigns of both the Kangxi and other emperors, and was renovated again during the Qianlong era of the Qing Dynasty. According to descendants of the Li family, Dasheng Nunnery served as the family temple of the Pilin Wanchuan Li clan. Li Zhaoluo, a Qing Dynasty scholar and literary figure, was also a descendant of the Wanchuan Li clan. During the Anti-Japanese War, Dasheng Nunnery was used as a site by anti-Japanese forces. It was damaged when the Japanese invaders attacked, and was rebuilt in the winter of the 32nd year of the Republic of China (1943 AD). After the liberation, Dasheng Nunnery was once used as Mapiqiao Primary School.

Zhenglu Town: Zhenglu Town has a long history. The Sidun Site in Sanhuangmiao Village, located three kilometers south of the town, has yielded a large number of cultural relics through multiple excavations, confirming that our ancestors lived and thrived here over 5,000 years ago, creating an advanced stage of the Liangzhu culture and forming the embryonic form of a “state.”

Zhenglu Town boasts a superior geographical location and convenient transportation. The Changjiao Highway and the Changzhou Outer Ring Road run through the town; the Beitan River connects to the Grand Canal to the south and to the Yangtze River to the north. The town area is just 4 kilometers from the Hengshan interchange of the Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway, 30 kilometers from Changzhou Civil Aviation Airport, with the Shanghai-Nanjing Railway to the south and the Changzhou Port on the Yangtze River to the north...
