Former Site of Beixiashu School

The former site of Beixiashu School is a cultural relic protection unit of Changzhou City.

The former site of Beixiashu School is located in Huangtiandang Village, Zhenglu Town, Tianning District, and consists of two parts. One is situated 220 meters southeast of the Huangtiandang Village Committee. It is a single-story, five-bay building featuring a five-pointed star-shaped gate tower, with a stone tablet inscribed with a ban on performances of Tanhuang (a local operatic genre) in the 30th year of the Daoguang Emperor’s reign (1850) embedded in the west wall near the entrance. Around the time of the Xinhai Revolution, the Zhenglu area saw a flourishing of educational initiatives. Xu Jianhong and Cheng Shiyi founded Xixiashu Primary School (First Primary School) at the former site of the Beixiashu Dawang Temple. The other part is located on the former campus of Huangtiandang New Citizens Primary School nearby, built between 1946 and 1947. The main structure is a two-story teaching building, constructed with brick and wood, primarily serving elementary and middle school education.

Huangtiandang Village: Huangtiandang Village is located in the northeast of Zhenglu Town, bordering Shijiaxiang Village to the south, Qiangjia Village to the west, and Jiangyin to the north. Provincial Highway S232 and the Lupugang River run north-south through the village, providing convenient water and land transportation. In April 2010, the original Huangtiandang Village and the original Donggu Village were merged to form the current new Huangtiandang Village. The village now covers an area of 5.43 square kilometers, with a residential area of 1,760 mu. It comprises 28 villager groups, 10 natural villages, 1,459 households, and a total population of 3,768, including 167 Party members.
