Former Residence of Chengyue

The former residence of Chengyue is a cultural relic protection unit of Changzhou City.

The former residence of Chengyue is located at No. 26-29, 31, and 32, Nanxiatang, Jiaoxi Village, Zhenglu Town, Tianning District. Built during the Xianfeng era of the Qing Dynasty, it faces west and is a brick-and-timber structure with a flush-gable roof. The residence has three courtyards and four bays, with the first and second courtyards being single-story buildings, and the third being a two-story building. Chengyue was a successful candidate in the imperial examination during the Xianfeng era and once served as a copyist at the National History Office. In 1860, he was appointed to organize the Suzhou–Changzhou militia and later remained in Shandong as a provisional provincial judge.

Zhenglu Town: Zhenglu Town has a long history. The Sidian Site in Sanhuangmiao Village, located to the south of the town, has yielded a large number of cultural relics through multiple excavations, proving that our ancestors lived and thrived here over 5,000 years ago, creating an advanced stage of the Liangzhu culture and forming the embryonic form of a “state.”

Zhenglu Town enjoys a superior geographical location and convenient transportation. The Changjiao Highway and the Changzhou Outer Ring Road pass through the town; the Beitang River connects to the Grand Canal in the south and the Yangtze River in the north; the town center is only 4 kilometers from the Hengshan Interchange of the Shanghai–Nanjing Expressway, 30 kilometers from Changzhou Civil Aviation Airport, with the Shanghai–Nanjing Railway to the south and the Changzhou Port on the Yangtze River to the north...
